Download GedCom files
 |
GedCom is a standard file format for exchanging information between genealogy programs used on computers.
The acronym stands for GEnealogical Data COMmunications, a system developed by The Family History Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) for sharing data. |
You can use GedCom files to transfer information into programmes such as Family Tree Maker from another genealogy program that supports the GedCom format. By using GedCom files you can share data with other people who are researching the same family. You can also upload GedCom files to the LDS Church, making your research available to millions of other researchers around the world.
Files to download
The GedCom file "woodward.ged" relates primarily to the Alcester family of Woodwards, from William Woodward (1760) to the current date, but covers my entire research, not just Woodwards. The file contains details of over 840 people, spanning 13 generations and with 207 different surnames.
The file also contains information about a family of Woodwards who lived in Morton Bagot and Tanworth, Warwickshire, between 1640 and the early 1800s. This family, decending from a Walter Woodward born around 1640, is linked by marriage, but as yet I cannot find any blood link with the Alcester Woodwards.
For more details, download the file: woodward.ged (last updated 19 October 2007). Select the save option when prompted by your web browser. Once you have saved the file import it into your family tree software package which should then automatically create a readable database file (such as FTW).
